Pune: The registration of the Indira Shankar Nagari Cooperative Housing Federation has been canceled by the Divisional Joint Registrar due to significant irregularities in the registration process.
The federation, covering 36 societies and over 60 row houses in a 14-acre complex in Kothrud, was established without the knowledge or approval of the societies involved.
The cancellation was based on several serious findings. The federation was formed without providing prior notice to the housing societies, nor was their consent obtained.
It was also revealed that individuals holding commercial spaces or planned housing societies were incorrectly listed as members of the federation, which violates standard procedures.
Additionally, federation fees were paid in the names of society presidents without their authorization. These issues came to light when the federation applied for deemed conveyance of the entire area to the District Deputy Registrar, which led to notices being sent to the societies, sparking widespread objections from over 20 societies in the area.
In response to these objections, the federation withdrew its application for deemed conveyance last month and submitted a letter to the District Deputy Registrar, Sanjay Raut.
Meanwhile, the societies had also challenged the federation's registration with the Divisional Joint Registrar. After a thorough review, the Divisional Joint Registrar, Yogiraj Surve, canceled the federation’s registration. Several notable irregularities were highlighted in Surve’s verdict, and the societies involved have indicated that criminal proceedings may follow.
Local residents have welcomed the ruling, stating that their collective opposition had succeeded in protecting their interests.
"The societies united to oppose the improper formation of the federation and succeeded in ensuring the cancellation of its registration," said residents Adv. Arundhati Bangar, Vijaykant Gaikwad, Sanjay Patwardhan, and others.
