Pune: As Diwali approaches, Pune's markets are witnessing a surge in demand for decorative electrical items as people look to brighten their homes and offices.

Popular shopping areas like Tapkir Galli, Sonya Maruti Chowk, and Bohri Alley are packed with customers searching for unique and vibrant decor options.

From string lights to LED lamps, lanterns, and chandeliers, the range of available products has expanded to meet the growing trend of both indoor and outdoor decorations during the festive season.

One of the hottest items this year is the new "water lights," electric lamps that are gaining immense popularity, with prices starting at ₹120 for a set of 16 lamps. Traditional oil lamps are being replaced by electric ones, which are not only easy to handle but also enhance the beauty of rangoli decorations.

In addition, LED string lights remain a favorite, with multicolored bulbs and remote-control features. Available in different shapes and sizes, these lights start from ₹200 and go up to ₹500 for larger sets.

Artificial electric torans, starting at ₹300, and decorative flowers, available for ₹250, are also in demand. Lamp shades of various sizes and designs, as well as chandeliers, are being used to create colorful and stylish decorations in homes.

Shoppers like Tejashree Deshmukh and Sakshi Basutkar expressed satisfaction with the growing variety of electric decor options.

"We have been using electric lamps instead of traditional wax or oil lamps. They are attractive, easy to handle, and affordable," said Deshmukh.

Basutkar added, "We are using LED string lights both inside and outside the house. The local products may be slightly more expensive than Chinese-made lights, but they are much more durable."

According to local businesses, the rise in demand for electrical decorations during Diwali has been consistent over the past few years.

"Customers want something new every year, and the market is well-stocked to meet those needs," said Shashank Kadam, a business owner in Pune. With prices remaining stable and customers flocking to the markets, vendors are reporting strong sales ahead of the festival.
