Pune: A 21-year-old youth, identified as Anup Lokhande, ended his life at the Nityanand De-Addiction Center in Hinjewadi, allegedly for denying supply of narcotic pills. The incident was discovered on Tuesday (August 6) morning at approximately 6 AM.

Anup Lokhande, a resident of Tadiwala Road, had been struggling with an addiction to narcotic pills. He reportedly obtained these pills from the son of a local liquor vendor, Raju Pawale.

On August 1st, Anup attended the Annabhau Sathe Jayanti celebrations at Sarasbaug. The following day, August 2nd, he returned home at 8 AM in an intoxicated state but without his vehicle or mobile phone, which remain missing. Concerned for his wellbeing, Anup's mother admitted him to the Nityanand De-Addiction Center that same day.

Despite these efforts, on Tuesday morning, Anup was found to have hanged himself with a towel in the center's bathroom. His mother has since filed a complaint with the Bundgarden Police Station, demanding strict action against those responsible for his addiction, including his friends and Raju Pawale, the supplier of the narcotic pills.

"There is rampant open sale of narcotic substances in the Tadiwala Road area, facilitated by police inaction. This has led many youths into addiction.

I lost my son to this scourge and do not want other families to suffer the same fate. The police must take immediate action against those supplying these dangerous substances," stated Bharati Lokhande, Anup's mother.

Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Gaikwad of Bundgarden Police Station confirmed that an investigation is underway. "We are conducting a thorough investigation based on the complaint filed. Strict action will be taken according to the findings," he assured.
