Pune: A late-night incident of drunken disorderliness escalated into a police arrest and an altercation with medical staff at Sassoon Hospital.

The suspect, Mohammad Shaukat Ali Syed (32), a resident of Yash Rhythm Society in Parge Nagar, Kondhwa, was arrested after he opposed the closure of Vikram Hotel, hurled abuses at police officers, and assaulted a doctor during a medical examination.

The incident occurred around 1:16 AM on the night of September 8 when a waiter at Vikram Hotel, located near GPO Chowk, informed the police that a man was causing a commotion after consuming alcohol. Despite it being time for the hotel to close, Syed refused to leave and began shouting profanities.

Police Officer Prakash Awhad, who was on duty as a marshal that night, arrived at the hotel along with a colleague. The officers attempted to calm Syed down and explain that the hotel was closing.

However, instead of complying, Syed began verbally abusing the officers. As the situation escalated, Syed also started assaulting a customer who was waiting outside the hotel without any provocation.

When Officer Awhad attempted to stop the assault, Syed grabbed the officer’s collar, further aggravating the situation. The officers restrained him, and Sub-Inspector Khedkar took Syed to Bund Garden Police Station, where he continued to shout and cause a disturbance.

Following his arrest, Syed was taken to Sassoon Hospital for a mandatory medical examination. In the emergency department, Syed’s unruly behavior continued as he grabbed the collar of Dr. Sudarshan, the attending physician, and verbally abused him as well.

After Dr. Sudarshan filed a written report of the incident, police charged Syed with creating a public disturbance under the influence of alcohol and obstructing official work. Syed was formally arrested, and further legal action is being pursued.

The police have stated that such behavior will not be tolerated and that strict action will be taken against those who disrupt public order and obstruct government officials in their duties.
