Extortion in Pune IT Parks: Two Booked for Threatening Barclays Officials

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has issued a stern warning against any form of extortion or intimidation aimed at securing contracts in the city’s IT Parks.

This comes after a recent incident where officials at an IT company in Kharadi were threatened to award a transportation contract. The commissioner made it clear that extortion under the guise of union activities will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) for such offenses.

On Thursday (September 5), two individuals, Vaibhav Pacharne and Somnath Pathare, both residents of Kharadi, were accused of illegally entering the premises of Barclays Global Service Center in Kharadi.

The duo allegedly intimidated the company’s management, demanding that they be awarded a transportation contract, citing their local status. They further threatened to cause trouble for the management if their demands were not met.

The incident was promptly reported, and a case has been registered at the Chandannagar Police Station. Police officials are currently investigating the matter, and strict legal action is expected against the accused.

Commissioner Amitesh Kumar emphasized that any entrepreneur facing pressure or threats related to contract work should report it immediately.

He assured that prompt and strict action will be taken against those involved in such activities. Kumar also stated that the city’s private companies, especially those in the IT sector, should not tolerate extortion in any form.

To ensure that the management of IT companies is fully aware of the legal avenues available to them, a meeting will be organized for IT company officials across Pune.

This initiative aims to encourage companies to come forward and report any attempts of intimidation, thus preventing future incidents of extortion.
