Pune: In a crackdown on unqualified medical practitioners, the Vishrambaug Police have registered a case against a man practicing as a doctor without a medical degree.

Identified as Pandurang Babanrao Devadkar, a resident of Prayas Society, Lokmanya Nagar, Pune, the 40-year-old was reportedly diagnosing and prescribing medications despite lacking medical qualifications.

A complaint was lodged by Dr. Gopal Ujvankar, and Pune Municipal Corporation’s health department notified the authorities of Devdkar’s unauthorized practice.

Following the investigation, it was revealed that Devdkar did not hold a valid medical degree or license. Based on this, a case was filed under Section 33 (1) of the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 1961. The investigation is being led by Police Sub-Inspector Khade.

The incident highlights a concerning rise in unqualified individuals practicing medicine in Pune and nearby areas.

Earlier cases included the arrest of Mehboob Farooq Sheikh, who had been operating under a false identity as "Mahesh Patil" in Koregaon, Shirur Taluka.

Sheikh, who had only completed his tenth-grade education, had previously worked as a compounder. In Mundhwa, another individual, P. Ramkrishna Reddy, set up a clinic after retiring as a surgical assistant, using a certificate obtained from an organization in Uttar Pradesh.

In July, authorities arrested a fake doctor named Torne in Loni Kalbhor, while another individual operating a treatment center for hemorrhoids in Warje was also detained.
