Pune: A 63-year-old lawyer was assaulted by his wife, brother, and sister-in-law over a dispute involving a phone call. The incident occurred on Tuesday (September 3) morning at around 8:30 am in Belsar, Junnar Taluka, when the lawyer was at home having breakfast.
According to the police report filed at Junnar Police Station, the lawyer, whose name has not been disclosed, was eating khichdi when he received a phone call from one of his clients.
As the lawyer was engaged in the conversation, his wife inquired about the caller’s identity. When the lawyer ignored her question and continued talking, his wife attempted to snatch the phone from his hand. This led to a heated argument between the couple.
As the argument escalated, the lawyer’s brother and sister-in-law intervened. The brother, in an attempt to end the argument, picked up a bamboo stick and struck the lawyer on the neck. When the lawyer tried to seize the stick, his brother and sister-in-law forcefully pushed it, inadvertently causing the stick to hit the lawyer's wife.
The situation quickly worsened as the trio began verbally abusing the lawyer and continued to physically assault him. They also allegedly threatened to kill him during the altercation.
Following the assault, the lawyer sought medical treatment for his injuries and subsequently went to Junnar Police Station to lodge a complaint.
Based on the lawyer's complaint, the police have registered a case against his wife, brother, and sister-in-law under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation is currently ongoing, and further actions will be determined based on the findings of the Junnar Police.
