Pune: Amid the Diwali shopping season, Pune’s Faraskhana Police have taken action against a shop in Raviwar Peth for selling counterfeit jeans under the Mufti brand, marketed by Credo Brands Marketing Limited.

The shopkeeper, Umar Mukhtiyar Chashmawala (34), allegedly tried to deceive customers by offering fake branded jeans. A total of ₹79,178 worth of counterfeit products were seized from "The Big Brand Factory Stores."

The complaint was filed by Mahendra Sohansingh Devra (36), a field officer for Brand Protectors India, a Gurgaon-based company responsible for monitoring brand integrity in Maharashtra.

During a routine inspection at The Big Brand Factory Stores, Devra discovered that the shop was selling jeans with the fake Mufti brand logo, marketed by Credo Brands Marketing Limited.

Following the discovery, he submitted a report to Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandipsingh Gill, who ordered the Faraskhana Police to investigate.

Assistant Police Inspector Vaibhav Gaikwad, along with a team including Assistant Constable Mokashi, Constable Shinde, and Police Constables Rathod, Jadhav, Sonune, and Holkar, arrived at the store for inspection.

Upon examination, they confirmed that the jeans, along with shirts bearing the Credo Brands logo, were counterfeit. The police subsequently seized 22 pairs of jeans valued at ₹79,178.

A case has been registered against Chashmawala under the Copyright Act for trademark infringement, with Assistant Police Inspector Gaikwad leading the investigation.
