Pune: In a tragic accident on the Pune-Solapur highway near Theur Phata, a speeding dumper rammed into a car, leading to the immediate deaths of a father and his son.
The victims have been identified as Abhijit Suresh Pawar, 36, and his father, Suresh Prabhakar Pawar, 62, residents of Bakori Phata, Wagholi. The collision also left three other family members critically injured.
The incident took place on Monday, September 1, around 3:30 PM when Abhijit Pawar, along with his family, was traveling by car.
As they approached Theur Phata on the Pune-Solapur highway, a dumper truck, reportedly driven at high speed by Sandesh Laxmanrao Pawar, 33, collided with their vehicle. The impact was so severe that both Abhijit and his father succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
Among the injured are Abhijit's sister-in-law, Pranita Pawar, his mother, Sulochana Pawar, and his young son, Riyansh Pawar. All three sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby private hospital for urgent medical care.
Following the accident, Loni Kalbhor police registered a case against the dumper driver, Sandesh Laxmanrao Pawar, based on a complaint filed by Aniket Pawar, 31, a relative of the victims.
Assistant Police Inspector Shivshant Khos is leading the investigation into the incident, as authorities seek to determine the exact cause of the crash and establish accountability.
The accident has brought to light ongoing concerns about reckless driving on the Pune-Solapur highway, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future.
