Forex Trading Fraud: Gujarat-Based Cyber Thieves Nabbed by Pune Police

Pune: Chandan Nagar Police have successfully apprehended three cyber criminals from Bhuj, Gujarat, who defrauded a victim of ₹20 lakhs by promising high returns on forex trading investments.

The arrested individuals are identified as Nakar Ronak Ashwinbhai (28, Kailasnagar, Bhuj), Shah Mohitkumar Dineshsai (27, Nakhtarana, Kutch), and Sodha Divyarajsing Amarsing (24, Kothara, Tal. Havarasa, Kutch).

The complainant was contacted through Telegram, and convinced to invest in forex trading with promises of good returns. They were defrauded of ₹28 lakhs between January 15 and February 7, 2024, without receiving any returns.

In connection with this crime, upon investigating the details of the cheated money and the bank account holder, it was found that the bank account holder was from Bhuj. The mobile location obtained from the Gmail IP address also indicated Bhuj.

Subsequently, a cyber team from Chandan Nagar Police Station, including Police Sub-Inspector Rameshwar Revale, Police Constables Ukirde, and Panpatil, went to Bhuj.

They detained Nakar Ashwinbhai, whose interrogation revealed the involvement of the other two, leading to their arrests as well.

Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijaykumar Magar, Assistant Commissioner of Police Vitthal Dabde, Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Chavan, and Police Inspector Anil Mane, this operation was executed by Police Sub-Inspector Rameshwar Revale, Ukirde, Panpatil, Wankhede, Dahale, and Thorat.

Pune is witnessing a significant increase in online fraud cases, with over 1,000 complaints filed with the cyber police from January to June 30, 2024. According to police reports, these cases have resulted in financial losses exceeding ₹98 crore.

Recently, numerous incidents of money lost in share trading scams have come to light. The police have urged citizens to exercise caution, remain vigilant, and stay alert to prevent falling victim to such frauds.
