Pune: An incident involving a brawl between friends outside the Shirur court on July 18 has highlighted security concerns at the judicial premises.

According to police reports, a 22-year-old woman from Shrirampur, Ahmednagar, currently residing in Shikrapur, Shirur, who was married to Rajendra Jadhav in 2020, now lives with her parents.

On the evening of July 18, she arrived at Shirur court around 5 PM for a divorce hearing, accompanied by her acquaintance Vijay Machhindra Nikam from Shrirampur, Dattanagar.

Delays in court proceedings led her to ask Vijay to wait a bit longer. When she arrived, Vijay angrily assaulted her within the court premises, drawing the attention of bystanders.

The police and lawyers present took her and Vijay aside. Soon, female police officers and other officers arrived at the scene. She accompanied them to the Shirur police station.

She stated at the police station that Vijay Machhindra Nikam, a resident of Shrirampur, Dattanagar, had slapped her in anger, but she did not wish to file a complaint against him. A case has been registered against Vijay under sections 110, 112, and 117 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.

The incident has sparked criticism of the Shirur police station's handling of the case, with locals calling for the appointment of a more competent officer.

Common citizens are questioning whether to file complaints at Shirur police station or against the police themselves. This was sharply criticized by Advocate Sumit Devidas Pote. Pote highlighted the general dissatisfaction among residents, who are uncertain whether to file complaints at the police station or against the police themselves.

This incident comes on the heels of another disturbance involving a former deputy sarpanch causing a drunken commotion and using abusive language within the court premises.
