Pune: The Market Yard Police have arrested three individuals for setting fire to two motorcycles and a car in the Gagan Vihar Society premises in Pune.
The arrested suspects, identified as Nikhil Chavan (25), Mahendra Ahuji (25), both residents of the Market Yard area, and Aditya Sakhare (21), a resident of Kondhwa Khurd, are also implicated alongside two minors, who are being dealt with separately.
According to the complaint filed by Virendra Chandrakant Amrale (38), a resident of Gagan Vihar Society, the accused unlawfully entered the society's premises late at night.
The group proceeded to douse two motorcycles and a car with petrol before setting them on fire. Thick smoke from the burning vehicles filled the society, causing panic and alarm among the residents.
Upon receiving the report, Senior Police Inspector Maya Devare visited the scene, and after a swift investigation, the police arrested the three suspects. Assistant Police Inspector More is overseeing further investigation into the matter.
This incident adds to a growing number of cases involving public vandalism in the city. On Dussehra, a gang brandishing machetes wreaked havoc in the Dhankawadi area, damaging several vehicles.
In another incident, a minor and his associates caused damage to six to seven vehicles in the Janata Vasahat area due to a minor dispute.
Such violent acts, involving the use of weapons and the vandalizing of vehicles, have been on the rise in both the city and its surrounding suburbs, instilling fear among residents.
