Ganesh Chaturthi: No Parking Zones and Road Closures Announced in Pune

Pune: The Pune Traffic Police have announced comprehensive traffic management plans to ensure smooth traffic flow on Ganesh Chaturthi, during the Ganpati idol purchase and installation process on September 5 and 7, 2024.

With the installation of Lord Ganesha approaching, the city is expecting a surge in devotees and mandals purchasing idols. The majority of stalls for idol sales are concentrated in areas such as Dengle Bridge to Shivaji Bridge, in front of Shramik Bhavan, Kasba Peth Police Station to Jijamata Chowk, and from Savarkar Statue to Samadhan Bhel Center on Sinhgad Road, as well as in Kumbharwada, Keshav Nagar, and Mundhwa.

DCP (Traffic) Amol Zende, in a press statement, said," To avoid inconvenience to local residents and to prevent traffic congestion, the police have issued specific orders. These orders will be in effect from 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM on both days, with several key routes being closed to traffic and alternative routes being suggested for drivers."

Traffic Restrictions and Diversions:

  • Shivaji Road: The stretch from Gadgil Statue Chowk to Gotiram Bhaiyya Chowk will be closed. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes:

  • Alternate Route 1: From Gadgil Statue Chowk, take a left turn onto Santaji Ghorpade Path and proceed via Kumbharves Chowk to Shaheer Amar Sheikh Chowk.

  • Alternate Route 2: Vehicles heading from Shivajinagar towards Swargate should continue straight on Jangli Maharaj Road via Khandoba Chowk and Tilak Chowk, instead of turning left at S. Go. Barve Chowk.

  • Alternate Route 3: Vehicles traveling from Jhansi Rani Chowk to Khude Chowk to Dengle Bridge towards Kumbharves should take a left turn at Khude Chowk, pass by Pune M.N.P., and proceed through Mangala Cinema Lane to Kumbharves or Premier Garage Chowk.

No Parking Zone:

  • From Savarkar Statue Chowk to Samadhan Bhel Center (Sinhgad Road), parking will be strictly prohibited during the sale of Ganpati idols.

  • Barricades and Ropes: These will be used as necessary to manage traffic flow and parking.

Parking Arrangements:

  • From Mitramandal Chowk to Patil Plaza.

  • The left side of the road from Jamnalal Bajaj Statue to Puram Chowk.

  • From Nilayam Bridge to Sinhgad Road Junction.

  • Keshav Nagar, Mundhwa.

On September 7, traffic diversions will be enforced in Keshav Nagar and Mundhwa from 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM.

Temporary one-way traffic routes will be in place, with vehicles heading towards Manjari from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk being directed to take a right turn at Renuka Mata Mandir and proceed via Gairan Vasti Road.

Active Traffic Routes:

  • Traffic for all vehicles, except heavy ones, will continue on several routes:

  • From Phadke Haud Chowk to Jijamata Chowk to Futka Buruj.

  • From Appa Balwant Chowk to Budhwar Chowk to Moti Chowk.

  • From Premier Garage Lane in front of Mangala Talkies to Kumbharves.

Additional Parking Provisions:

  • Parking spaces have been arranged for vehicles of devotees and mandals coming to purchase Ganesh idols at the following locations:

  • On the left side of the road between Justice Ranade Path and Shivaji Statue near Kamgar Statue Chowk.

  • On the south side of the road from M.N.P. Bill Collection Center to Gadgil Statue Chowk on Veer Santaji Ghorpade Path.

  • On the riverbank road between Tilak Bridge and Bhide Bridge.

  • At Minerva and Aryan parking lots in Mandai.

  • On the left side of the road between Shahu Chowk (Fadgate Chowki Chowk) and Rashtrabhushan Chowk.

PMPML Bus Diversions:

  • Buses traveling from Shivajinagar Stand to Swargate will be diverted to Jangli Maharaj Road via Tilak Chowk.

  • Buses heading towards Swargate from Corporation Bus Stop will take the route through Jhansi Rani Chowk via Jangli Maharaj Road, Alka Talkies Chowk, and Tilak Road/Shastri Road.

The Pune Traffic Police request all vehicle drivers to adhere to these traffic changes and cooperate to ensure smooth and safe traffic management during the Ganpati festivities.
