Pune: While 95 per cent of the work on widening the first phase of Ganeshkhind road widening has been completed, the work on widening the second phase of road widening is likely to start after the Assembly elections.
At present, the civic administration is making efforts to remove the hurdles in land acquisition required for road widening.
Work is currently underway to construct a two-storey flyover from Acharya Anandrishiji Maharaj Chowk in front of the entrance of Savitribai Phule Pune University to Rangehills Corner to solve the problem of traffic congestion on Ganeshkhind road.
Along with this, the work of metro project on Ganeshkhind road is also going on at a fast pace.
Meanwhile, while two major projects are underway, the civic administration has also given priority to widening the road to get rid of traffic congestion on Ganeshkhind road once and for all.
Accordingly, the work of widening the road is also going on by the municipal administration. 95 per cent of the road widening work has been completed from Dhotre Path to Senapati Bapat Road Junction from Shivajinagar to Ganeshkhind road, while on the other side from the university to Kakade Mall coming from Shivajinagar to Shivajinagar has been completed.
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is pursuing with the government for widening of the reserve bank's agricultural college (RBI) site.
The road will be 45 metres.
The road widening work in the first phase of Ganeshkhind road has been completed by 95 percent. The road, which was earlier 36 metres, will now be 45 metres as per the development plan.
After the widening, the existing available road will be increased by three and a half to four metres. In the second phase, the process of widening the road between RBI to Sancheti Hospital, Shivajinagar to Dhotre Path will be done. In the second phase, land belonging to 51 properties will be affected for road widening.
Of these, 10 properties have come under the control of the civic body. Efforts are on by the civic administration to take possession of the remaining property. Some are private properties, while the rest are under the jurisdiction of the state and central governments such as agricultural colleges, air stations and meteorological departments.
Provision of Rs 20 crore for phase 2
The BMC had already allocated Rs 20 crore in the budget for the second phase of widening of Ganeshkhind road. Some of the sites have been taken over.
Accordingly, the bmc's roads department has prepared the technical process for the tender. After the assembly elections, a proposal in this regard will be placed before the pre-census committee for approval. Once the process is completed, the second phase of widening work is likely to begin after the elections.
