Gokhale Institute Vice-Chancellor Ajit Ranade Resigns

He said he was resigning from the post of vice-chancellor of Gokhale Institute with immediate effect due to personal reasons.

Pune: Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) Vice-Chancellor Ajit Ranade has resigned from the post of Vice-Chancellor.

The matter went to court when Ranade's "eligibility and disqualification for the post of vice-chancellor" was being raised.

After completing the judicial process in this regard, now Dr. Ranade has said, "I have given a letter of resignation to Chancellor Sanjeev Sanyal."

Ranade's appointment had sparked a controversy. There were complaints that Ranade did not have the required qualifications for the post of vice-chancellor. From this, the then Vice-Chancellor of the Institute Bibek Debroy appointed the fact-finding committee.

As per the recommendations of the committee, It was decided to cancel Ranade's appointment. However, the decision was later taken back after Ranade challenged it directly in court.

Finally, the High Court stayed the decision and retained Ranade's vice-chancellor's post. Following the court's decision, Debroy resigned as chancellor. Later, senior economist Sanjeev Sanyal has been appointed as the Chancellor of Gokhale Institute.

He said he was resigning from the post of vice-chancellor of Gokhale Institute with immediate effect due to personal reasons. Ranade said in the letter.

"Thank you to the Management Board, Servants of India Society, faculty and staff, students and all other stakeholders for giving me the opportunity to lead the Gokhale Institute of Political Science and Economics for two-and-a-half years, one of the best institutions in the country. Best wishes to the institution for achieving excellence," he said in his resignation letter.

"This resignation does not reflect any lapse or disqualification in my appointment as vice-chancellor of the Gokhale Institute in October 2021," he said. Ranade has clearly stated in his resignation letter.
