Good Morning Messages Flood RTO’s WhatsApp Helpline, Only 10 Valid Complaints Out of 300

Salil Urunkar

Pune: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) set up a WhatsApp helpline to handle complaints against auto rickshaw, cab, and private travel operators. However, instead of receiving complaints, the number has been inundated with greetings and general inquiries. Out of 300 messages received, 290 were irrelevant, making it difficult for officials to identify genuine complaints.

Travelers in Pune often face issues with rude auto rickshaw drivers who sometimes refuse fares. Previously, complaints could be lodged by visiting the RTO or via email, but this process was cumbersome, resulting in very few complaints each month.

During festivals and holidays, private travel operators frequently overcharge passengers. Complaints against such practices also faced similar hurdles. In response to demands for an easier complaint process, the RTO launched a helpline and WhatsApp number (8275330101) last Friday for lodging complaints against auto rickshaw, cab, and private travel operators.

In the past four days, over 300 messages have been received on this number, with the majority being greetings or general inquiries. Only 10 messages contained complaints against rickshaw drivers.

Sifting through the unrelated messages to find genuine complaints has become a challenging task for RTO officials. Investigations into the valid complaints have begun, but the RTO has requested citizens to refrain from sending unnecessary messages to the helpline.

Guidelines for Filing Complaints

When filing a complaint against a rickshaw or travel operator, it is crucial for citizens to provide accurate information. This includes the vehicle number, the location of travel, and the details of the complaint. This information will help RTO officials to investigate and take appropriate action.

Archana Gaikwad, RTO, Pune said, “We have started the WhatsApp number for the convenience of citizens. They can lodge complaints against auto rickshaw, cab, and travel operators through this number. We request citizens not to send greetings or unrelated messages, as it hampers our primary work.”

  • WhatsApp Number for Complaints: 8275330101

  • Total Messages Received in Four Days: 300

  • Valid Complaints Received: 10
