Pune: A disturbing incident has come to light in Pune, where a 16-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted within the premises of a well-known city college.
The police investigation has revealed that the accused individuals did not know each other personally, and the case is not being treated as one of gang assault.
The accused have been identified as Om Adesh Gholap, aged 20, and Swapnil Vikas Devkar, aged 22, who have been arrested by the authorities.
In addition, charges have been filed against two minors involved in the incident. The complaint was lodged by the victim, a student in the 11th grade at a prominent college in Pune.
According to the police, one of the accused is a student of the same college, while the other three are enrolled at different institutions. The initial contact between the accused and the victim occurred through social media platforms.
The police have confirmed that the accused were aware that the victim was underage, yet they proceeded with the assault. What makes this case even more alarming is that a video of the incident was reportedly shared on social media, adding to the victim's trauma.
How the Case Was Discovered:
The incident came to light when a female police officer from Koregaon Park police station visited the college for an event aimed at raising awareness about women's safety and sexual abuse.
During her talk, she provided information on how to report abuse and the importance of standing up against such crimes. It was then that one of the victim’s friends approached the officer and informed her about the assault. The friend also revealed that a video of the incident had been circulated on social media.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the officer immediately reported the matter, and an official complaint was filed. The case is currently under investigation, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Smartana Patil.
