Pune: Tensions have erupted between Hadapsar BJP unit workers and NCP MLA Chetan Tupe over claims that the MLA is trying to take undue credit for projects initiated by the BJP.
The dispute escalated when BJP officials blackened the nameplate of the Manjari flyover in protest, accusing Tupe of sidelining the contributions of BJP MLC Yogesh Tilekar and other party members.
The protest took place as BJP workers expressed dissatisfaction with Tupe's working methods, specifically accusing him of taking credit for infrastructure projects such as the water supply scheme, railway flyover, and the Manjari river flyover, all of which were sanctioned through BJP MLA Yogesh Tilekar's efforts.
According to BJP worker Shivraj Ghule, Tupe has deliberately ignored BJP officials while positioning himself as the key figure behind these developments.
Further adding to the grievances, BJP leaders pointed out that while ₹23 crores were approved for the Manjari flyover project, only ₹14.6 crores have been utilized, with the remaining funds returned.
This, according to BJP corporator Balasaheb Ghule, has resulted in a scaled-down bridge, which could lead to traffic congestion in the future due to its reduced width and height.
Balasaheb Ghule also warned that such actions by the NCP could undermine the unity of the "Mahayuti," the grand alliance formed between various political parties, including the BJP and NCP.
The protesters indicated that they would be submitting a memorandum to Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, voicing their concerns about Tupe's actions and the possible violation of the alliance's principles. They also threatened to withdraw from the alliance if the issue remains unresolved.
In response to the accusations, MLA Chetan Tupe acknowledged the right of BJP workers to protest but attributed their actions to a misunderstanding.
Tupe emphasized that he has maintained good relations with BJP MLA Yogesh Tilekar and clarified that the Manjari flyover, which has become the focal point of the dispute, is only partially completed.
Tupe explained that while two lanes of the planned four-lane bridge have been finished, the remaining two are still under construction. Once completed, Tupe assured that all those who contributed to the project would be appropriately recognized.
Regarding the blackened nameplate, Tupe revealed that the plaque was installed by the irrigation department over a year and a half ago and not by his office.
He further explained that the bridge had been temporarily opened by the police after the old structure became unusable during the monsoon season.
Tupe concluded by expressing confidence that the misunderstanding would be cleared up and stressed that there were no serious disagreements between him and the BJP.
