Pune: A man impersonating a senior official in the health department deceived multiple individuals by promising jobs for their children, collecting a total of ₹94 Lakh without delivering on his promises.

The Kothrud police have filed a case against the fraudulent health official. The scam occurred between December 2023 and April 2024 in Kothrud.

Govindrao Gunagir Giri (53), a resident of Sant Dnyaneshwar Colony, Shastri Nagar, Kothrud, lodged a complaint at the Kothrud police station.

Based on the complaint, Amol Vilas Shinde (35), currently residing at Janata Vasahat, Bhosari, originally from Mahur, Nanded District, and also Khapri, Nagpur, has been charged under IPC sections 406, 419, 420, 465, 468, and 471. The accused defrauded the complainant and others financially.

According to the police, the accused told the complainant that he was a senior officer in the health department at the Ahmednagar District Program Manager's office.

Gaining the complainant's trust, he promised to secure jobs for the complainant's son and others as Talathi, Health Worker, and Health Friend. To secure these jobs, the accused demanded money from the complainant.

Accordingly, the complainant paid Amol Shinde ₹24.5 Lakh in cash and online transfers. Additionally, ₹69 Lakh were collected from witnesses.

After receiving the money, Shinde gave the complainant and witnesses fake appointment letters, fake ID cards, email letters, and other forged documents, including false marksheets.

Realizing the documents were fake, Giri and the witnesses demanded their money back and the return of the documents. Shinde then abused them and threatened to destroy the documents.

The complaint states that Amol Shinde defrauded the complainant and witnesses of a total of ₹94 Lakh. The Kothrud police are conducting further investigation.
