Heavy Rainfall in Pune: 2568 Cusecs Water Release from Khadakwasla Dam Begins

Neelam Karale

Pune: The Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Mutha Canal Irrigation Sub-Division has announced that 2568 cusecs of water release from the Khadakwasla Dam spillway into the Mutha River began at 5 PM today.

As a precautionary measure, residents living along the riverbanks have been urged to stay alert and take necessary safety steps.

The release of water is expected to significantly increase the water flow in the Mutha River. Officials have appealed to citizens to avoid venturing near the river and remain vigilant.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Pune district, warning of the possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds over the next 24 hours.

The weather department has forecasted intense rainfall that could lead to localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas.

Given the heavy rain forecast and the release of water from the dam, authorities have advised residents to stay updated on the weather conditions and avoid unnecessary travel near the riverbanks or flood-prone zones.

Local disaster management teams are on standby to respond to emergencies, while citizens are being requested to remain cautious and prepared for any potential weather-related challenges.

Pune is geared up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's much-anticipated public rally scheduled for Thursday (September 26) at the S.P. College grounds. If the rains intensify as predicted, it could dampen public enthusiasm and significantly reduce attendance at the rally.
