Pune city experienced a sudden downpour on Sunday (August 18) evening, leading to widespread waterlogging and traffic disruptions.

Within just an hour of heavy rainfall, water accumulated in various parts of the city, causing significant inconvenience to residents. In some areas, water levels rose to knee height.

Localities such as Dhayari, Sinhagad Road, Ghorpadi, Sopan Baug, BT Kawade, and Yerawada were particularly affected, with intense rainfall leading to waterlogged streets.

The situation worsened as two-wheelers and rickshaws stalled due to the flooded roads, bringing traffic to a standstill. Puneites were left scrambling as the rain threw daily life into chaos.

In the Chandannagar and Kharadi areas, the rain hit especially hard. A tree fell near Ghorpadi Village, resulting in a major traffic jam. The rain has caused significant stress for Pune residents, with traffic congestion reported in multiple locations across the city.

Flood-like conditions have emerged in the Taradatt and Shivdatt Colony areas, where water has entered several homes. Authorities warn that if the rain continues, it could pose a serious threat.

This downpour comes just a day after Pune experienced its first significant rain in ten days, lasting between one to one and a half hours.

As the rain returned today with renewed intensity, it caught many office-goers off guard as they were on their way home, forcing them to endure the downpour and worsening traffic conditions.

With roads heavily waterlogged, many vehicles stalled, leaving citizens to abandon their cars and continue their journeys on foot. The Sinhagad Road area also reported ongoing heavy rain. Residents are urged to stay indoors and avoid non-essential travel.
