Pune is gearing up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's much-anticipated public rally scheduled for Thursday (September 26) at the S.P. College grounds. Preparations are in full swing, but an unexpected challenge has emerged—heavy rains.

On Tuesday (September 24), the downpour turned parts of the rally ground into a mudfield, forcing organizers to bring in excavators to level and dry the area. 

However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain for Wednesday (September 25) and Thursday (September 26), raising concerns about how the weather might affect the event.

If the rains intensify as predicted, it could dampen public enthusiasm and significantly reduce attendance at the rally. 

Nonetheless, rally organizers are doing their best to ensure that preparations continue smoothly, keeping in mind the possible weather disruptions. The rally, expected to draw a massive crowd, could still face logistical challenges if Pune’s weather doesn’t cooperate.

The city of Pune and its suburbs have been experiencing heavy rainfall for the second consecutive day, causing widespread disruption.

On Tuesday afternoon, a sudden downpour, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, left large parts of the city waterlogged. Traffic was thrown into chaos as roads became flooded, making commuting difficult for motorists and pedestrians alike.

Adding to the chaos is ongoing metro and flyover construction work across the city, which has worsened traffic jams. Vehicles were seen moving at a sluggish pace as rainwater filled the streets. By 6:30 PM on Tuesday, various parts of Pune recorded significant rainfall, with Lohegaon receiving 39.6 mm, Shivajinagar 19.2 mm, and Magarpatta 12.0 mm.

Red Alert Issued for Pune: More Rains Expected
Looking ahead, the IMD has issued a red alert for Pune district on Wednesday, September 25. Heavy rains are expected in the hilly areas, while the city and its suburbs will likely experience moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the day.
