Pune: A 19-year-old woman ended her life after her boyfriend of several years refused to marry her. The woman, overwhelmed by the refusal and the pressure from her partner's family, took the drastic step of hanging herself at her residence in Hinjewadi using a scarf.

The police have arrested two individuals in connection with the case, including the young man she was in a relationship with.

The incident came to light on Saturday (August 31) around 4 PM at the home of Kailas Murlidhar Gaikwad, who filed the complaint at the Hinjewadi police station.

The police identified the arrested individuals as Subodh Sudhir Sakhare (25), a resident of Sakhare Vasti in Hinjewadi, Mulshi, and Rohan Sudam Parkhi (30), a resident of Mulani Vasti, Man, Mulshi. Additionally, a case has been registered against Sudhir Sakhare, Subodh's mother, and another unidentified woman for their alleged involvement in the events leading up to the suicide.

According to the police, the young woman had been in a relationship with Subodh Sakhare for several years and had been urging him to marry her. However, Subodh and his relatives consistently refused her requests, making it clear that they would not approve of or support the marriage under any circumstances. This rejection reportedly caused the woman significant emotional distress, leading her into a state of depression.

Faced with increasing mental pressure and unable to cope with the situation, the young woman decided to end her life. On Saturday afternoon, she was found hanging in her room, having used a scarf to take her own life. Police Sub-Inspector Zhol is leading the investigation into the case.
