Holiday Declared for Mumbai and Pune Schools Due to Extreme Rainfall Warning

Pune: In response to the weather department's warning of extremely heavy rainfall, authorities have declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in Mumbai and all schools up to the 12th standard in Pune on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

Due to the red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Mumbai, considering the safety of students, a holiday has been declared on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, for all primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools as well as colleges in Mumbai.

Citizens are also requested to remain vigilant and only step out if necessary. They should follow the instructions provided by the administration from time to time.

In case of an emergency, citizens are advised not to panic and to contact the Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell's helpline number 1916, as appealed by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Pune has issued a warning of extremely heavy rainfall in the district on July 9. Therefore, the District Collector Dr. Suhas Divase has issued orders to declare a holiday for all schools up to the 12th standard in the district on July 9.

The order states that a holiday has been declared for all schools up to the 12th standard in the district on Tuesday to prevent any untoward incidents due to heavy rainfall and to ensure that students are not affected by any emergency situation.

However, during this period, all principals, teachers, and non-teaching staff should be present in the school during office hours to manage disaster operations as per local administration's orders.

Citizens are advised to exercise caution and avoid visiting waterfalls and tourist spots. They should step out only if necessary, as also advised by the District Collector.
