Pune: The Headquarters Maintenance Command (HQ MC) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully hosted AVISEM-24, a two-day seminar on Avionics Standards and Certification, at the Base Repair Depot in Pune on October 17 and 18, 2024.
The event was presided over by Air Marshal Vijay Kumar Garg, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command, and attended by senior officials from Air Headquarters, scientists from leading defense organizations, and representatives from the private sector.
The seminar, organized to address the IAF's push towards self-reliance in avionics repair and development, provided a platform for key stakeholders, including CEMILAC, DGAQA, NAL, and ADA, to interact with industry representatives from MCCIA, PHD CCI, and FICCI.
The event highlighted the IAF's requirements for indigenous solutions in avionics systems and showcased the capabilities of the private sector.
In his keynote address, Air Marshal Garg emphasized the significance of becoming self-reliant, particularly in light of global conflicts, and underscored the IAF’s commitment to in-house design, development, and certification of avionics equipment.
He pointed out that ongoing projects under Maintenance Command, valued at ₹6,000 crore, aim to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers and strengthen the domestic industry’s role in avionics systems.
The seminar featured discussions on the importance of independent certification and quality assurance in aviation, with a special focus on user-friendly improvements introduced by CEMILAC.
The exhibition allowed both industry participants and IAF personnel to explore each other's needs and capabilities, fostering a collaborative environment.
Air Marshal Garg also reaffirmed the IAF’s support for industry partners, offering to share knowledge, resources, and testing facilities throughout the development process.
The event saw the participation of over 100 industry representatives, who showcased their expertise and shared experiences in avionics systems development.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between HQ MC and MCCIA was signed during the event, paving the way for greater collaboration in avionics innovation.
