Pune: A minor commotion unfolded during the inauguration ceremony of the Shivajinagar to Swargate Metro when Industry Minister Uday Samant's mobile phone was reported lost.
The event, which was held on Sunday (September 29), was attended by prominent political figures, including Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
The ceremony, which included the online inauguration of the Shivajinagar to Swargate Metro and the ground-breaking ceremony for the Swargate-Katraj Metro, was conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Following the inauguration, the dignitaries took a ride on the newly inaugurated metro line.
Amidst the celebration, an announcement was made requesting anyone who might have found Uday Samant's phone to return it to the stage. This unexpected development drew attention from attendees and created a brief distraction during the event.
Key highlights of the event included the inauguration of Pune Metro’s underground stretch from the District Court to Swargate, and the laying of the foundation stone for the Swargate-Katraj extension of Phase 1 of the Pune Metro project.
Recalling the history of the Pune Metro project during his address, Modi pointed out that despite discussions dating back to 2008, tangible progress only began when his government laid the foundation stone in 2016.
Since then, Pune Metro has rapidly expanded, with today’s inauguration marking another milestone. He contrasted this with the previous administration’s delays, asserting that the previous government could not complete even a single metro pillar in eight years.
