Pune: Chandan Nagar police have apprehended a young woman for allegedly breaking into a house under the guise of begging and stealing gold jewelry and cash.

The suspect, identified as Mili Deepak Pawar (20), a resident of Adgaon Naka in Panchavati, Nashik, was arrested alongside a minor accomplice involved in the crime.

Authorities seized items valued at ₹40,76,000 from the duo, including 52 tolas of gold jewelry worth ₹35 lakh, ₹26,000 in cash, and a motor vehicle worth ₹5.5 lakh.

The incident unfolded when Mili and her accomplice noticed an open door at a residence in the Chandan Nagar area on Nagar Road. They were reportedly scouting houses under the pretense of seeking alms when they seized the opportunity to steal valuables from the open premises.

Following the theft, the pair fled the scene, prompting an investigation by the Chandan Nagar police. Based on intelligence gathered by Police Constable Mahesh Nanekar, the investigation team located the suspects in the Devachi Alandi area.

A police team successfully set up a trap and apprehended both individuals. During the interrogation, they admitted to committing thefts in both the Khadak and Chandan Nagar areas.

Mili Pawar and her minor accomplice would often pose as beggars, moving around various locations in the city. When they spotted an open door, they would conduct a quick reconnaissance.

Taking advantage of the situation, they would enter the house and steal cash and valuables within minutes. Just days prior, they had stolen items from the Timber Market area of Bhavani Peth, including 52 tolas of gold jewelry from a residence in Chandan Nagar.
