Pune: The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved the establishment of an Additional District and Civil Senior Sessions Court in Junnar, as announced by local MLA Atul Benke.

This long-awaited development was formally agreed upon during a Cabinet meeting held on Monday (September 23).

The approval marks a major milestone for the Junnar Taluka Bar Association, which has been campaigning for the court's establishment for several years to cater to the legal needs of the region's growing population.

The decision has been widely welcomed by members of the Junnar Taluka Bar Association, including President Adv. Hemant Bhaskar, Vice Presidents Adv. Sameer Purwant and Adv. Hemant Hadawale, Secretary Adv. Ashish Wankhede, and Librarian Adv. Samkit Nanawati.

These legal professionals, along with local litigants, expressed their satisfaction with the government’s decision, which they believe will significantly improve access to justice for residents of Junnar and surrounding areas.

MLA Benke, who played a key role in advocating for the establishment of the court, met with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in Pune alongside representatives from the Junnar Taluka Bar Association.

During the meeting, all necessary criteria for the new court’s establishment were discussed, and a conversation was held with the Finance Minister to expedite approval.

Benke emphasized that the need for a local court has been pressing due to the geographical expanse of Junnar taluka, the rising number of legal cases, and the logistical difficulties faced by litigants who currently need to travel to Khed (Rajgurunagar) to attend court hearings.

The new court will alleviate these challenges, providing residents with easier access to legal services. This will not only reduce travel times but also help in expediting legal proceedings, thereby improving the overall efficiency of the judicial system in the region.

The decision to establish this court is expected to benefit thousands of people in Junnar and neighboring areas.
