Pune: Due to continuous heavy rainfall in the Khadakwasla Dam area over the past two days, the dam is now 90% full as of Tuesday (July 23) evening.

If the rain persists, officials plan to release water into the Mutha River on Wednesday morning. Currently, 1,205 cusecs of water are being released into the canal, but with an inflow of 3,000 cusecs, the dam is expected to reach full capacity within 24 hours.

At 5 PM on Tuesday, Panshet Dam had a water storage level of 6.88 TMC (64.64%), Varasgaon Dam had 6.49 TMC (50.66%), and Temghar Dam had 1.65 TMC (44.41%).

Combined, these four dams have a total storage of 16.77 TMC, which is 57.53% of their collective capacity. Specifically, Khadakwasla Dam has accumulated 1.75 TMC of water.

From 6 AM to 5 PM on Tuesday, the rainfall recorded was 13 mm at Khadakwasla, 41 mm at Panshet, 42 mm at Varasgaon, and 60 mm at Temghar.

Shweta Kurhade, Executive Engineer, Khadakwasla Irrigation Department, "Officials are keeping a close watch on the hourly rainfall and inflow rates. Depending on these factors, water will be strategically released into the Mutha River.

Initial plans include releasing 450 cusecs of water, with the possibility of increasing the discharge as needed to manage the dam's capacity."

Residents living near the riverbed have been advised to exercise caution. It is recommended that no one enter the riverbed, and any materials or animals should be promptly moved to safety.
