Pune: The Khadakwasla Dam area experienced a reduction in rainfall intensity on Friday (July 26), leading to the cessation of water discharge from the dam by the evening.

Over the past 24 hours, around 2.5 TMC of water was released into the Mutha river from Khadakwasla Dam. As of now, the combined water storage in the four dams (Temghar, Varasgaon, Panshet, Khadakwasla) of the Khadakwasla Cluster has reached 77.60 percent, totaling 22.62 TMC.

Heavy rains were recorded in the catchment areas of Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon, and Temghar dams, which are crucial for the city's water supply.

In just 12 hours, Khadakwasla received 74 mm of rain, Panshet 129 mm, Varasgaon 132 mm, and Temghar 170 mm, resulting in a significant accumulation of water in the dams.

Due to the full capacity of Khadakwasla Dam, the incoming water was being released promptly. Meanwhile, Panshet, Varasgaon, and Temghar dams are not yet filled to their maximum capacity, though their water levels have increased substantially.

On Friday, light rain was recorded in the dam area, with Khadakwasla Dam experiencing a break from rainfall, while Panshet received 26 mm, Varasgaon 28 mm, and Temghar 20 mm.

On Friday morning, 13,981 cusecs of water was being discharged from the Khadakwasla Dam. However, as the rainfall intensity decreased, the inflow of water into the dam reduced, leading to a gradual reduction in discharge. The release, which had been at 4,708 cusecs, was stopped around 5 PM.

The current water levels stand as follows:

• Khadakwasla: 1.03 TMC (51.59 per cent)

• Panshet: 9.28 TMC (87.18 per cent)

• Varasgaon: 9.63 TMC (75.09 per cent)

• Temghar: 2.68 TMC (72.41 per cent)
