Khadki Police Register Case Over Forced Marriage of Minor

Neelam Karale

Pune: The Khadki police have registered a case against a young man, his mother, and the parents of a 17-year-old girl for allegedly forcing her into marriage while she was still a minor.

The complaint was filed by the young woman herself at the Khadki police station, stating that her marriage was arranged in November last year despite her objections. The accused, including her husband, mother-in-law, and parents, were aware of her age at the time.

The young woman became pregnant after the marriage, which was revealed during a medical check-up. Following this, she recently reported the matter to the police.

Police Sub-Inspector Bedgude is conducting the investigation. Authorities are highlighting that such cases of forced marriages involving minors are often linked to the poor financial conditions of families.

The police have reiterated that under the Child Marriage Act, charges are filed against those involved, and medical professionals are required to report instances when pregnancies involving minors are identified.

Alleged Rape Under Marriage Pretext

In a separate case, the Chandan Nagar police registered a complaint against a young man, his mother, and his brother for allegedly raping a woman under the pretense of marriage.

The victim reported that she had become acquainted with the accused, leading to a romantic relationship. The accused promised marriage but then sexually assaulted her.

When she questioned him about the marriage, he threatened to release photos and videos of her on social media. The accused’s mother and brother allegedly verbally abused her. Assistant Police Inspector Siddhanath Khandekar is handling the investigation.
