Pune: A minor altercation at DY Patil Hospital escalated into a violent attack when two men, identified as local goons, assaulted a young man with a knife and fractured his nose over an accidental bump with a lunchbox.

The incident took place on the first floor of the hospital on the evening of August 24 at around 8:30 PM.

The victim, Rohit Hindurav Rakate (28), a resident of Rupesh Colony in Akurdi, has filed a complaint at the Pimpri Police Station. Following the complaint, the police have registered a case of attempted murder against the accused, Rohit Ovhal and Aditya Yadav, both residents of Akurdi.

According to the police, the complainant was visiting the hospital to bring food for his grandfather, who is undergoing treatment there. While he was going up the stairs with a lunchbox, he accidentally bumped into Rohit Ovhal. This minor incident led to a heated argument. Aditya Yadav, who was accompanying Ovhal, verbally abused Rakate and slapped him.

Things quickly escalated when Ovhal threatened Rakate, saying, "We are the 'bhai' of Akurdi, and you bumped into us on purpose. You will not leave this place alive." He then drew a long knife from his pants and attempted to slash Rakate’s throat. Fortunately, the victim managed to evade the attack.

However, the assault did not stop there. Aditya Yadav hit Rakate hard on the nose with a fighter, fracturing his nasal bone. Rohit Ovhal then grabbed Rakate by his hair and kneed him forcefully in the face, breaking his cheekbone, and also kneed him in the chest.

Ovhal further intimidated the onlookers by waving his knife and threatening, "Anyone who dares to confront us will end up like this," causing the crowd to disperse in panic.

Before leaving the scene, Aditya Yadav issued a death threat to Rakate. The Pimpri Police are currently investigating the matter under the supervision of Police Inspector Awhad.
