Pune: A landslide occurred on the main pathway of Shivneri Fort, with rocks falling from the cliff above, prompting the district administration to ban tourism until July 31 for safety reasons.

The incident, which took place between Mahadarwaja and Parwanagi Darwaja, fortunately resulted in no injuries, as there were few tourists at the time.

Two individuals had just passed the spot when the landslide occurred behind them, narrowly escaping harm. The incident occurred between Mahadarwaja and Parwanagi Darwaja.

The sudden landslide left the tourists on the fort in a state of confusion for a while. Despite the ban on visiting the fort until July 31, enthusiastic tourists continue to come.

During the monsoon season, there is a risk of landslides at forts, hills, and waterfalls. Despite the ban, tourists visit these dangerous places, often putting their lives at risk.

The cliff with the fortification of Shivneri Fort, the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, has collapsed. Hence, tourists visiting Shivneri Fort should exercise caution, as urged by the Pune District Collector.

After the landslide, several stones and debris came down, scattering rocks on the pathway. The strong stone protective wall built by the archaeological department on the pathway also got damaged, creating a gap in the railing. A temporary branch has been placed there for safety.

Regarding this incident, Central Archaeological Department Survey Assistant Babasaheb Jangle said, "We have informed the senior office about this and will take necessary precautions after surveying if there are any other dangerous cliffs."

Babasaheb Jangle, Survey Assistant of the Indian Archaeological Department at Junnar states, "Lenyadri and Shivneri are both hilly tourist spots. A month ago, due to monkey movements, rocks fell on the steps at Lenyadri. At that time, we sent a letter to the Geological Survey of India regarding the survey of dangerous cliffs.

Now, we are informing them about the survey of Shivneri as well. Proposals for necessary safety measures will be communicated to the senior office for action."
