Pune Police have taken legal action against four mandals for violating the ban on the use of laser lights during the Dahi Handi festival.

The prohibition, enforced by Additional Commissioner of Police Ranjankumar Sharma, aimed to prevent accidents caused by the blinding effects of lasers, particularly in areas near Lohegaon, where an Air Force base and a civilian airport are located.

Despite the ban, several groups were found using laser lights and loudspeakers at excessive volume levels during the celebrations. These actions prompted complaints to the Pune Police Control Room, leading to the filing of cases under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code.

Complaints about the disturbance caused by laser lights and the excessive noise from loudspeakers during the Dahi Handi celebrations were received by the Pune Police Control Room. By Tuesday night, 12 complaints had been lodged with the control room.

The Pune Police have filed cases against four groups under Zone II and Zone V for defying the orders and using laser lights and loudspeakers, under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code, according to officials from the Special Branch of Pune Police.

Action will be taken against the groups that violated noise limits and used laser lights. For this, Additional Commissioner of Police Ranjankumar Sharma had instructed all senior inspectors at police stations across the city to carry out video recordings. The Lohegaon area has an Air Force base and a civilian airport.

Due to the potential danger of pilots being blinded by laser lights, which could lead to serious accidents, Additional Commissioner Sharma has imposed a 60-day ban on the use of laser lights in the city.
