Lonavala Torrential Rains: 216mm rainfall recorded in 24 hours

Pune: Lonavala has been hit by torrential rains, recording a staggering 216 millimeters of rainfall in the past 24 hours. This record-breaking downpour has created a delightful atmosphere for tourists visiting the popular hill station, providing them with the perfect opportunity to enjoy the monsoon showers.

The heavy rain has significantly enhanced the appeal of Lonavala, attracting more tourists to the area. Known for its scenic spots, Lonavala has seen 216 millimeters of rain in just one day, setting a new record for this year.

So far, Lonavala has received a total of 1,485 millimeters of rainfall, compared to 1,190 millimeters by this time last year.

The increased rainfall this year suggests that Lonavala might experience a surge in tourist activity. Popular attractions like Bhushi Dam, Lion's Point, and Tiger Point are expected to draw large crowds.

Lonavala police have repeatedly urged tourists to prioritize safety while enjoying the rainy weather and to be mindful of their surroundings and the well-being of others.

Pavana Dam Water Levels Rise by 4 Per Cent

The region around the Pavana Dam has been experiencing continuous rainfall over the past few days, significantly increasing the water levels in the dam.

As of Sunday, July 14, the water storage in Pavana Dam stands at 28.77 percent. Since the onset of the monsoon on June 1, the area has received a total of 662 millimeters of rainfall, with 132 millimeters falling in the past day, marking the highest rainfall of the year so far.

For comparison, by this time last year, the region had recorded 655 millimeters of rain, and the dam's water storage was slightly higher at 30.75 percent.

Before the commencement of this year’s monsoon, the Pavana Dam's water storage was at 17.43 percent. The recent rains have increased this by 11.34 percent, bringing the current storage to 28.77 percent.
