Pune: Known as Maharashtra's prime tourist destination, Lonavala and Khandala are currently experiencing continuous heavy rainfall. Despite the dense fog and heavy showers, tourists flocked to the hill stations on Sunday (July 7), enjoying the monsoon season. In view of prohibitory orders and restrictions at popular destinations, tourists are preferring stays in private bungalows and rural areas.

Lonavala recorded 128 millimeters of rain on Sunday morning, creating a cool and pleasant atmosphere that tourists eagerly enjoyed. Tourism is a significant part of Lonavala and Khandala's economy, and the weekend saw a surge of visitors taking advantage of the holiday season.

Popular spots like Lion's Point, Rajmachi Garden, Bhushi Dam, Bhaja Caves, waterfalls, and Karla Caves were crowded throughout the day. The Pavana area also attracted many visitors. However, the shadow of last Sunday's accident at Bhushi Dam loomed over this weekend's tourism activities.

In response, the police and district administration implemented safety measures and announced guidelines for tourists. Despite these precautions, Lonavala was fully booked with tourists on Sunday (July 7).

Many visitors opted to stay in private bungalows and rural areas. The local markets were bustling with people buying the famous Lonavala chikki and jelly.

Due to traffic issues, the police prohibited vehicle stops in certain areas. To manage security and traffic control, seven officers, 70 police personnel, and 30 volunteers were deployed in the Lonavala area.

No Entry After 5 PM

Due to the increase in accidents, strict safety measures have been enforced at tourist spots like Bhushi Dam, Lohagad Fort, Bhaja, and Lion's Point.

After 5 PM, police have restricted tourist entry to these locations. Traffic moved slowly as vehicles lined up on the Deole Road, Bhaja, and Bhushi areas.
