Pune: The Lonavala Rural Police have filed charges against seven tourists for reckless behavior near waterfalls in Ambegaon, Pawananagar, and the Bhaje waterfall areas.

This action comes after a recent tragic incident where five members of a family were swept away in a waterfall near Bhushi Dam. In response, the District Collector issued prohibitory orders at tourist spots.

Violating these orders has led to action under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code 2023, as confirmed by Inspector Kishor Dhumal of the Lonavala Rural Police Station.

Tourists who engage in dangerous activities have been repeatedly warned, yet some continue to evade police supervision to visit prohibited areas, risking accidents.

On July 21, around 2 PM, five tourists breached security to visit a waterfall in the Ambegaon mountain range, leading to charges against them. Similarly, two tourists were penalized for approaching the waterfall near Bhaje Caves. To date, the Lonavala Rural Police have filed charges against 15 tourists for similar offenses.

During the monsoon season, tourists from Pune and Mumbai visit Lonavala in large numbers. While visitors are encouraged to enjoy their time, they are also urged to refrain from activities that endanger their lives.

Signs and repeated warnings have been issued at tourist spots, and stricter actions will be taken against those who violate the District Collector's orders, stated Inspector Kishor Dhumal.

Five individuals, including children and women, from a family based in Hadapsar area of Pune, were swept away in Bhushi Dam while on a monsoon outing. The tourists were at a waterfall in the forest behind Bhushi Dam when they were carried away by the water on June 30.
