Pune: Despite the prestigious reputation of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, 139 candidates have turned down job offers after being recruited for various positions.

The main reason is that other state government departments offer higher salaries. Consequently, candidates from the waiting list will now be given a chance.

Last year, the municipal corporation conducted a recruitment process. Online exams were held for 354 positions across 11 different posts. The largest number of vacancies, 213, was for clerical positions, followed by 74 for civil engineering assistants, 47 for junior civil engineers, and 18 for junior electrical engineers.

The selected candidates were contacted by the General Administration Department of the corporation and appointment letters were issued. However, 46 candidates did not show up to collect their letters for police verification and medical examination, and 13 did not submit their police verification reports.

Five candidates refused to submit medical reports, and even after receiving appointment orders, 25 did not join within the stipulated time. Additionally, 49 candidates informed the corporation that they would not be joining.

Thirteen candidates joined the municipal corporation but resigned after a few days. Those who did not complete the character and physical fitness verifications did not inform the corporation, resulting in the cancellation of their selection.

Those who resigned had their resignations accepted. Now, candidates from the waiting list are being selected to fill these positions.

Alongside the municipal corporation’s recruitment, other state government departments also conducted exams. Many candidates who passed the municipal corporation’s exam also passed these other exams.

Departments such as Cooperation, Water Resources, Revenue, Municipal Councils, and Public Works offer higher salaries than the municipal corporation. Therefore, 139 candidates preferred jobs in these state government departments over the municipal corporation.

Currently, 245 individuals have joined the municipal corporation. Due to various reasons, the appointments of 139 candidates have been canceled. Candidates from the waiting list are being called for police verification and medical examination, according to Vitthal Joshi, Deputy Commissioner of the General Administration Department of the Municipal Corporation.
