Pune: Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and various student organizations demanded swift justice for a minor girl who was allegedly abused on the premises of a local college.
The protest, held in front of the Pune Police Commissioner’s office, called for the immediate arrest of the college trustees and management officials who are accused of attempting to cover up the incident.
The controversy stems from a case involving the abuse of a minor by four men on the campus of the college. Reports indicate that the perpetrators were under the influence of drugs at the time of the crime.
What has further fueled public outrage is the allegation that Sachin Sanap, a trustee of the college, was aware of the incident but chose to suppress the matter instead of taking action. Protesters allege that Sanap even pressured the victim’s father to stay silent.
Leading the protest, Congress MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, alongside Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) city president Sanjay More, NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Prashant Jagtap, and representatives from various student organizations, demanded the immediate arrest of Sanap and others involved in the alleged cover-up.
The protesters raised slogans demanding justice for the young victim and strict action against the college’s management. “The perpetrators abused the girl under the influence of drugs, and yet the trustees, who were aware of the incident, tried to hide the truth. We will not rest until justice is served,” said MLA Dhangekar during the demonstration.
Further demands included a thorough review of CCTV footage from the college premises to aid in the investigation. "If justice is delayed, we will take stronger action and escalate our protests," warned Dhangekar.
