Pune: A Dandiya celebration in the industrial village of Mahalunge took a violent turn when an altercation led to a shooting and assault. The incident occurred around 11:15 PM on Saturday, October 12.

According to Senior Police Inspector Nitin Gite of the Mahalunge Police Station, three individuals, including Saurabh Mule (27), have been charged in connection with the incident.

The shooting injured Nilesh Asati, who was hit in the chest, while Suraj Kadam sustained head injuries after being struck with a brick. The suspects also fired shots into the air, creating panic among locals.

The confrontation reportedly started during the Garba-Dandiya event near Bhairavnath Temple, organized by the Chhava Pratishthan Mitra Mandal.

An argument ensued between Saurabh Mule and Shankar Navgane, which escalated to involve women present at the event. The women accused Mule of bullying despite residing in their locality, leading to a physical altercation that disrupted the Dandiya program.

After the scuffle, one of Mule’s associates shot at Nilesh Asati, injuring him in the chest. Another individual struck Suraj Kadam on the head with a brick.

The suspects then fired into the air before fleeing the scene. Police are actively searching for the accused.

Recently, a group of eight individuals was charged with attempted murder after attacking two people who were trying to intervene in a dispute during a Dandiya dance event. The incident occurred on Tuesday night at 9:30 PM at the Shiv Mitra Mandal on B.T. Kawade Road.
