Pune: The construction of the flyover at Vishrantwadi Chowk will not hinder the Metro project, as confirmed by MahaMetro. Concerns about potential obstructions have been addressed, and sufficient space for Metro pillars has been ensured. With this clarification, the flyover and subway construction have received the green light.
To alleviate traffic congestion at Mukundrao Ambedkar Chowk in Vishrantwadi, the municipal corporation is constructing a flyover and a subway.
The groundbreaking ceremony for this project was conducted before the Lok Sabha elections. A Metro line is also proposed to pass through Vishrantwadi Chowk.
Former Deputy Mayor Dr. Siddharth Dhende and former Corporator Anil Tingre had raised objections, stating that the flyover and subway would leave no space for the Metro project.
Recently, Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol held a meeting at the municipal corporation, where questions about the flyover's design were raised. Mohol ordered a halt to the construction and asked for verification of the objections.
The municipal corporation's project department sent the flyover and subway plans to MahaMetro for review. Subsequently, a meeting was held between officials from both organizations, where MahaMetro clarified that the municipal corporation's project would not obstruct the Metro.
There will be sufficient space in the chowk for the Metro pillars when construction begins.
Srinivas Bonala, Chief Engineer, Project Department said, "The municipal corporation had MahaMetro review the flyover plan for Vishrantwadi Chowk. MahaMetro has confirmed that the flyover and subway will not obstruct the Metro project."
