Pune: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has confirmed that the passing criteria for Mathematics and Science subjects in the upcoming Class 10 board exams will remain the same.

This announcement comes amid media reports suggesting that the passing mark threshold for these subjects would be lowered from 35 to 20, causing confusion among students, parents, and educational institutions.

The state board has urged all stakeholders, including schools, principals, teachers, students, and parents, to take note of this clarification.

They also stated that any future modifications to passing criteria will be formally communicated by the board in advance. The passing criteria, set by the board’s existing standards, require students to achieve a minimum of 35% in each subject to pass.

This decision aligns with the current provisions in the state curriculum, which were approved by a steering committee appointed by the state government. However, these criteria will not see any changes for the 2025 exams, as clarified by the board.

This year’s Class 10 board exams, which will take place in February-March 2025, will be held across nine divisional boards: Pune, Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Amravati, Nashik, Latur, and Konkan. The official timetable for these exams has also been released.

This statement from the state board has brought relief to students and teachers who were concerned about the potential alteration in passing requirements, particularly for subjects like Mathematics and Science, which traditionally carry a greater burden due to their higher difficulty levels.
