Bus conductors in this city to be armed with body cameras to keep an eye on mischievous passengers

The body cams will help in the real-time monitoring of tickets and to keep a tab on other activities in the buses.

Aurangabad: Aurangabad witnessed multiple attacks on bus drivers and conductors this year. In February this year as many as 18 people were booked for allegedly attacking the conductor and driver of a state transport bus.

To contain the further attacks, bus conductors and ticket inspectors in Aurangabad city will soon be equipped with body cameras to keep a check on the behaviour of passengers. It will also help to keep a tab on other activities during transportation.

Recently, some women conductors from the municipal-run buses complained of misbehaviour with them.

The ASCDCL( Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Limited) official in a statement (According to PTI), said, "Acting on it, the Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation has decided to install body cameras in the front pockets of shirts of the conductors and inspectors of its buses to record the activities in the vehicles during their duty."

The body cams will help in the real-time monitoring of tickets and to keep a tab on other activities in the buses.

The administration has also asked former defence servicemen to work as line inspectors, who will check tickets of passengers. The deployed officials will also ensure security of passengers and give the feedback of commuters to the administration.

The ASCDCL has a strength of 100 buses, out of which 29 are currently being run on 12 routes in Aurangabad city.

The ASCDCL has been set-up by the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation to implement smart city projects. Astik Kumar Pandey, Aurangabad Municipal Commissioner leads the ASCDCL.
