COVID-19: After 75 days, Maharashtra records its highest surge of new cases

With the infection spreading again in Maharashtra, the local administration in many districts of the Vidarbha have rolled into action and have imposed COVID restrictions

Mumbai: It seems we are back in COVID-19 era as Maharashtra on Thursday recorded its highest surge of 5,427 new COVID-19 cases in around 75 days.

With the infection spreading again in Maharashtra, the local administration in many districts of the Vidarbha have rolled into action and have imposed COVID restrictions such as restricting movement at night and averting more than five people from coming together.

In two districts, Amravati, and Yavatmal, restrictions were put in place while a 10-day lockdown was imposed in Yavatmal. Also, a weekend lockdown was imposed in Amravati.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar held a meeting on Thursday to discuss the rising situation. More limitations in the affected districts can be expected soon. “The Chief Minister had chaired the meeting for taking decisions that were needed for tackling the situation,” Ajit Pawar told media persons on Thursday.

It will be compulsory for travellers coming in from Kerala, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat and Rajasthan, to show their COVID-19 negative report 72 hours before arrival. The same rule will be applicable for international travellers coming from UK, Europe, and Middle East nations.

On the other side, in Mumbai, the civic body also issued a set of new COVID-related guidelines for the city. Also, people violating rules for home isolation, weddings and mass gatherings will be prosecuted, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said.
