COVID vaccination drive: Maharashtra sets up 511 centres; 127 reserved for Mumbai, Pune

Maharashtra has reserved as many as 511 centres for the vaccination drive

Pune: As India gears up for the world’s biggest COVID-19 vaccination drive from January 16, Maharashtra has reserved as many as 511 centres for the vaccination drive. Around 100 people are set to get vaccinated at each of the 511 COVID vaccination centres in Maharashtra.

Mumbai, Pune which were the epicentre for the novel coronavirus has got maximum centres for the vaccination. Mumbai has the most vaccination centres at 72, while Pune has 55.

The state has set a target of 50,000 health workers to be vaccinated on the first day (January 16). Each of the 511 centres will have a batch of 100 health workers enrolled for vaccination. Nearly eight lakh healthcare workers have already registered for the COVID-19 vaccination drive.

Meanwhile, three trucks carrying Covishield vaccine from Serum Institute of Pune departed to the various cities of the country on Monday.

On Monday, state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray ordered the State Health Department to follow the Centre’s guidelines for implementation of the COVID-19 vaccination initiative scheduled to begin on January 16.
