Mumbai: A meeting to review the plans to resume the local trains in Mumbai was chaired under Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday.

Uddhav Thackeray has hinted that the decision on resumption local trains in Mumbai will be taken soon. The review meeting on local trains also discussed the plan of resumption of trains and also discussed how to avoid overcrowding.

Along with Uddhav Thackeray, many senior officers from the Mumbai administration including Principal Advisor to CM Ajoy Mehta, Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar, Abasaheb Jarad, Iqbal Chahal were present at the meeting.

Currently, only those including staff of essential services and women, are permitted to board suburban trains. Back in December, the ministry of railways had also permitted passengers travelling on long-distance trains to take the Mumbai locals.

Mumbai's lifeline came to standstill from March last year after the lockdown amid COVID-19 was imposed.
