Lockdown in some places of Maharashtra, says CM Uddhav Thackeray

Mumbai: Maharashtra, the state worst affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, continues to report a surge in daily caseload. Thus, amid rising cases in the state, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday said that some places in the state will undergo lockdown.

CM Uddhav Thackeray while talking to media persons on Thursday said, “Due to the rapid spread of the infection, the lockdown will be imposed in some parts of Maharashtra.”

Thackeray on Thursday took the first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine.

While, Aaditya Thackeray, Minister of Environment also said that people must wear face masks to curtail the further spread of COVID-19 in the state. Meanwhile, a sharp single-day surge of 13,659 new cases of COVID-19 was reported in the state on Wednesday. The numbers, reported in one day, are the highest in this year so far.

Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday had said, “The option of imposing a lockdown cannot be easily made but we will have to take a strong decision soon. We will analyse the situation within few days and take a decision."

During the media interaction on Wednesday also informed, "We will have to take some strong decision. Cases are on the rise in the state. I still request people to follow the COVID norms and guidelines given by the government. The vaccination drive is being started already and will be ramped up in few days."
