Maharashtra leads MSME registrations in country on new Udyam portal

Pune district has the highest number of MSME registered, especially the micro-enterprises on the Udyam portal

Pune: Maharashtra with its four districts, has emerged as the top state from where the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) have registered on the new Udyam Registration Portal launched by the Ministry of MSME in July 2020. Also, Pune district has the highest number of MSME registered, especially the micro enterprises on the Udyam portal.

The highest number of micro enterprises (3.9 per cent of the total registrations) registered on the portal are from Pune district. Thane district (2.9 per cent), Bengaluru (urban) (2.3 per cent), Jaipur (2.3 per cent) and Ahmedabad (2.3 per cent) are among the top 5 districts in this segment.

Prashant Girbane, director general of Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) said, “Udyam Portal has been launched for registration of all MSMEs. There are about 6.3 crore MSMEs in the country, out of which 1 crore had earlier registered on the old Udyog Aadhar Memorandum platform. Registration of all MSMEs has been made mandatory on the new portal and so far 21 lakh MSMEs have registered on it.”

“MSME Udyam registration is online, free and easy to do. MSMEs should register themselves in order to be beneficiary of any government scheme in future. All MSMEs should register themselves on the new portal and if they require any help, they can approach the MCCIA office irrespective of the membership of the organisation,” Girbane has appealed.

Maharashtra has the highest number of Micro enterprises with 24.9 per cent of all Micro enterprises. The state has the highest employment in Micro industries with a total of 14,67,166 employees and the average employment per enterprise 4.73. The state also tops in the distribution of small enterprises with 17.3 per cent registrations.

Similarly, the registered medium enterprises are highest in Maharashtra (18.0 per cent).

Most number of enterprises registered on the new Udyam portal are Service based enterprises with 8,28,853 (61.5 per cent) enterprises as compared to Manufacturing with 5,18,196 (38.5 per cent) registrations.
