Maharashtra lockdown: Don't want to impose it but 'majboori' is something, says CM Uddhav Thackeray

Mumbai: Stating his lack of unconcern in enforcing the lockdown in the state, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said, "I do not want to impose lockdown it but 'majboori' (helplessness) is also something."

"I do not want to enforce lockdown in Maharashtra but 'majboori' is also something," Chief Minister stated during a press conference in Mumbai on Sunday. Uddhav Thackeray also requested people of Maharashtra to wear masks to avoid lockdown. However, Thackeray guarnteed that he is continuously monitoring the situation.

Owing to the surge in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, CM Uddhav Thackeray had stated on February 21 that the following eight days would decide whether there will be a lockdown in the state.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Sunday reported 8,293 cases taking the total number of cases till date to 21,55,070. Also, 62 people lost their lives due to infection on Saturday. Total deaths in state till date now has crossed the mark of 52,154. On the positive front, 3,753 people were discharged from the various hospitals in the state.

NIGHT CURFEW EXTENDED IN PUNE

Pune district administration on Sunday decided to extend the restrictions imposed last week. Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol on Sunday said that all schools, colleges and private coaching classes will remain closed till March 14. In addition to this, no public movement will also be permitted between 11 pm to 6 am.
