Maharashtra: Strict action if COVID-19 continues to surge, says Ajit Pawar

Deputy CM Ajit Pawar also expressed unhappiness over people in Maharashtra not following COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines

Aurangabad: Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar termed the current COVID situation in Maharashtra as ‘alarming’. The senior NCP leader also warned that the government will have to take stern action if the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise.

Talking to mediapersons on Monday in Aurangabad Deputy CM also expressed unhappiness over people in the state not following COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines put in place in regards to the contagion.

He said, “After speaking with CM Uddhav Thackeray, we will have to take some stern measures if the number of cases continue to grow. People must keep wearing face masks and take precautions in order to avoid the spread of the infection.”

"I have come to know that people are not following the guidelines which are aimed at checking the spread of the COVID-19. If the situation goes out of control, we may need to pay heavy cost for this sloppiness. We have already saw that lockdown was imposed in many regions of the world again in view of the second wave of the COVID," the Deputy Chief Minister warned further.

There has been a sharp rise in the number of cases in Pune as well. Other districts such as Mumbai, Amravati, Nagpur are also reporting a high number of cases.

Talking about Pune, the district reported 396 new cases of COVID-19 taking the progressive total of COVID-19 to 3,93,231. Tuesday witnessed two deaths amid contagion however, 381 people were discharged from the various hospitals around the district taking the total number of recoveries to 3,79,453.
